Black Theory II [Short Film]

Black Theory II

Stressed about the troubles of settling in a new city, Malik’s own skewed outlook on race and the media could cost him his livelihood.

See how Malik strains those relationships close to him as he finds the difference from the things he sees in the media and the ideas he brings into the world. The 24 yr. old writer readies for his first interview in New York City but he learns a lot more about himself throughout the day.

Black Theory II is an 11-minute short film, filmed over the course of two weekends in Bushwick, NY & Manhattan, NY. Shot with a small budget of $310, the crew utilized resources to create a narrative that correctly addressed multiple perspectives of racial stereotypes and bias. The first film, Black Theory, placed #19 in the Viewster Online Film Festival and it analyzed Malik’s internal conversations as he watched troubling news segments of today’s racial tensions.

Euclase (Short Film)

Project: Short Film

Title: Euclase

Role: Director, Writer

Highlights:

Euclase acts as the first longer form short film for Campsight Studios productions. the 11-minute project had a digital premiere on Cafeteria Magazine.

Project Summary:

Euclase, the short film, is about a man who takes drastic measures as his relationship with the love of his life ends just as quickly as it began.

The film was shot in Eugene, Oregon on a 12-hour shooting schedule. With the use of a lot of close-range shots and cinematic scenes, Euclase has a very dramatic pull showing both visually and through the film’s storyline.

Watch as Nora attempts to rekindle a flame of her past even in the midst of her current relationship. She pulls Eric out of his own slump in hopes of finding the man she once loved so dearly. But can Eric stand on his own or was the potential of him and Nora the only thing keeping him going?

VOFF Film Fest

Black Theory finished #19 among the 10,000+ participants at the 4th Viewster Online Film Festival. My team and I are very happy with the production that became of that fall day in Denver. We filmed a story about racism in the media. Our goal was to respectfully exploit the issues we see on common mediums that people watch day in and day out.

Viewster has now offered a licensing deal to keep Black Theory on their platform and film library.

Plot Summary:

With the recent rise in police shootings and protest incidents, many of the media have been taking their stand from an editorial perspective. I took my stand from a little different perspective, a short film.

Malik gets a little lost in his own head as he watches some thought provoking news segments. In the end he has trouble deciphering what he’s hearing and what he’s actually thinking.

I wanted to release a film project that takes an interesting spin on the recent Ferguson uproar and other racism in the media. Black Theory II was filmed just a year later (October 2015) and encompasses a much larger range as far as location, dialogue, and cast.
